I wrote the below novel, “Spark” with the famous young-adult novelist, Gary Paulsen. (Author of 180+ books, including, “Hatchet” which sold millions of copies.) Gary Paulsen heard about me when I was 26-years-old; and once he read my writing; he asked to be my friend and writing mentor. “Spark” was originally written as a 30,000 word practice novel for him to teach me how to write better.
“Spark” is the story of a kid in serious trouble. He meets a successful business-man who was at the start of the heroin epidemic, and overcame his own troubled past in prison. It is a story about mentoring. It is the story of what I would say to my own lost, confused, and troubled teenage-self if I could meet him today and go fishing with him. Enjoy the read:
